Community Unity Day Sponsorships
To Whom It May Concern,
Rapid City Community Conversations prepares to celebrate our third 4D-5K Fun Run/Walk & Community Unity Day on June 2. Last year we were overwhelmed when nearly 350 adults and children wearing shirts of red, yellow, black and white started with the four directions in the free run-walk for unity. Mayor Allender proclaimed Community Unity Day. Memorial Park buzzed with entertainment and vendors, a community meal and a ceremony honoring four community leaders.
•Community Unity Day is one symbol of something happening in Rapid City. When some leaders of the Lakota community came together to discuss the escalating racial conflict in Rapid City in February of 2015, they endorsed a process of transformation, not through protests and blaming, but through innovative forward-looking solutions as determined by a grassroots cross-cultural gathering of people.
•We have succeeded in engaging community members by treating each voice as equal, each opinion as valid, and taking the high road with our efforts. A climate is growing for new and lasting friendships. There is a different feeling in the Rapid City air today – a time of change, dialog and innovation in our hometown, on this historic land.
We are contacting you today to ask for your support for the 4D-5K Fun Run/Walk & Community Unity Day on June 2 that we hope will include even more area residents and organizations in a visible expression of that new feeling.
The sponsorship program allows community partners to support Rapid City Community Conversations 4D-5K Fun Run/Walk & Community Unity Day by providing event tee shirts and the community meal free of charge for all participants. Many of you were part of our successful 2016 & 2017 4D-5K Fun Run/Walk & Community Unity Day. Other companies and organizations will want to join the effort this year.
